Hi there,
I recently purchased Info Select - the outliner/database system - and would appreciate feedback/suggestions on the product from other users. In particular, I'd like to hear from anyone who has experience in applying the product to `real-world' information management tasks related to relatively unstructured information. I'm waiting, at the moment, for the comercial release of the first Maxthink outliner version for windows, expected in one month, and am wondering whether to traverse the learning curve necessary to *really* make use of Info select, or whether to just wait for the new Maxthink. Thanks in advance for your info, Eric

I bought InfoSelect and really find it to be of no use to me at all. I would wait for MaxThink to appear before trying to learn InfoSelect with the idea of using it as an outliner. InfoSelect seems like a Swiss Army Knife with each feature too limited to be of any use to me.

The following is a repeat of a note I believe I posted here before (+ sone updates).
"I just returned InfoSelect (IS) under its 60-day guarantee policy.
The most unique feature I found was that you can create multiple, separate IS files, and open any or all of them in the IS program and also search for text in any or all of them via one search query.
My difficulties with it are
1) its limited formatting capabilities. It even eliminates some formatting of text that one pastes into it. For example, if I have subscripts or superscripts in a Word file and I wish to paste that text into IS, the subscript and superscript formatting is lost in IS.
2. The *.crd import didn't work properly for me
3.The upgrade price for recent purchasers is ridiculous. I purchased IS ver 5 on 7/7. There is now a version 6 beta ( http://www.miclog.com/is/6/info.htm , http://www.miclog.com/is/6/beta.htm ). To upgrade with the 50% discount for being a RECENT purchaser the total price would be as much as purchasing Ver6 directly, and even more if I wait a couple of weeks to do it.
4.Ver 4.0a-beta is here now! ==>A new beta version of Skwyrul is close to being released for testing. I haven't been using it because the current version is missing a couple of features I need, but I expect the new version to be great, and it's careware. ( http://www.asw.ndirect.co.uk ) THE POWERFUL RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON COMMANDS of ver 3.x have moved in Ver 4 to menus and keyboard commends.
5. Farther out on the horizon is Ver 3.0 of Jot+, another very worthwhile contender. See www.kingstairs.com
6. Agenda fans should check out Zoot (www.zootsoftware.com). But forget much formatting.
NEW: A possible alternative to Jot+ is the Russian-developed Advanced Note Tree (ANTey) at http://softclub.net/~psg Has more formatting capabilities and ability to include graphics/pictures.
Less printing capability...only prints one node at a time.
Less import/export capability (only ASCII & .XML) Of course when Jot+ ver 3 arrives you might wish you'd stayed with Jot 2.4
