The outliner I used to use was Acta, by David Dunham. I’ve been meaning to track down my old copy, which I’m sure is on a floppy somewhere amidst the rubble. It was a very simple, easy-to-use, and versatile program.
Apparently Acta became Dyno Notepad and/or Day-To-Day Notepad, which appear to have some nice functionality specific to maintaining task lists. However, the product seems to have been orphaned:

I haven’t been able to find the Portfolio Software version for sale anywhere. Anyone have a lead on buying an old copy of Notepad? Better yet, anyone want to publish it?
