The outliner I used to use was Acta, by David Dunham. I've been meaning to track down my old copy, which I'm sure is on a floppy somewhere amidst the rubble. It was a very simple, easy-to-use, and versatile program.
Apparently Acta became Dyno Notepad and/or Day-To-Day Notepad, which appear to have some nice functionality specific to maintaining task lists. However, the product seems to have been orphaned:

I haven't been able to find the Portfolio Software version for sale anywhere. Anyone have a lead on buying an old copy of Notepad? Better yet, anyone want to publish it?

I would totally welcome a re-release of Acta and we would happily link to it from outliners.com.
Did you know we bundled Acta with MORE 1.1c? I have a disk here, included as part of that package.

I've sent e-mail to 'info@scottsdale.com' which is the listed support address for the software. I've not received any form of response.
It would be incredibly helpful to get the Windows version of Acta for our students.

Acta is available right now for Windows as DayToDay Notepad at www.daytoday.com. I contacted David Dunham about nine months ago and found him unreceptive to releasing Acta or any versions he had ownership of, and ended up tracking down DayToDay on my own via a search engine.
DayToDay Notepad appears to be exactly the same product as the Mac version I loved. The Windows version is a little out of date (8.3 filenames only), but works well - simple and fast.

I've never stopped using Acta. I started with the first version, and am currently used version 7. It is wonderful. As far as I am concerned, it is what software should be: focused, tight and fast. it only did one thing, but it did it very well. It never had the bell and whistles of More, but I always found More to be comparatively clunky and cumbersome to use.

I'm coming in late here, but I'm sure everyone knows by now, David Dunham has re-released Acta. There's a link at Macintouch.

Talk about timing! Acta Classic (http://a-sharp.com/acta/ is exactly what I was hoping/searching for. Many thanks to David Dunham for this generous release.
