Well, some of them lack database power. But ConnectedText has an Sql database at its base and allows robust text searches. And I have never lost any information (except through my own fault).

I don’t find the formatting cumbersome. Whether you type “//” or “ctrl+I” makes little difference (at least to me). And the ability to link or create entries simply by enclosing them in double square brackets outweighs any minor formatting problems.
