Steve,
I tested NoteStudio about a year ago. The previous version did not have the annoyuing pop-ups (at least I don’t remember them at all). At the time, I found that Notebook (by Will Duquette), a freeware (tcl) application was a much better choice (not just because it is free). I did use it for almost three years, and I still use it for converting static texts into hypertext.
But I did opt in August for ConnectedText for my daily work. It is much more capable, though it costs 29.95. It has a trial period in which you can use it without any pop-ups. But you might find the period a bit short (14 days, though I guess you can ask for an extension). The licensing scheme (you must buy a new copy for every computer you use it on) also takes getting used to. (But if you change the computer on which it was installed, you get another license for free).
If you want you can read my testimonial on their Web page. BTW, I have nothing to do with the software (apart from being a satisfied customer).
