I must have misunderstood your ealier post, I thought you were saying that you now had to produce long documents, no longer had access to Framemaker and were unhappy about using Word.

Although, circumstances force me to use Word, I have found OOo a more pleasant and reliable working experience and from comments, like the link, it seems that OOo is better than Word with long documents, to the extent of competing with Framemaker.
I think the article made the point about the reliability of Framemaker, but as you say I wish it had a date on it. The author is also obviously an entusiast of OOo
As far as I am aware OOo files are XML files that comply with the international OASIS Open Document XML standard.
