Derek,
I don’t really think of FileNotes as a file management program rather a cut down document management system. When I used it, I found its ability to “force” you to add information to any file saved was useful, if annoying at times. Organise documents and annotate PDFs also useful.
However, I found in the end that as Zoot could automatically update Windows folders as new files were added, this served as a reasonably good document management system.
Additionally, as the important feature for me was being reminded to add notes or rename files as they were saved (very useful when you download a file called setup.exe), and this feature doesn’t work if you have Photoshop installed, I eventually drifted away from using it. It was also, from memory, heavier on resources, than I would have liked.
BUT having said all that, I still think its an excellent low cost and versatile document management system. I may even re-intall it now that you have got me thnking about it.
I have a had a quick look at Zoot and Biblioscape, and I cannot find any way of live linking a record, even worse if you copy the citation tag back into Biblioscape, and search on it, it doesn’t find any matching records. That is probaby where Library Master is better as the citation tag is in an ordinary field, which you can search.
Library Master is a strange beast in that it is extremely primitive in many respects, but it also makes it more accessible. Unfortunately, like every bibliographic programs, including biblioscape, Library Master suffers some fatal flaws, which have prevented me making it the core program that I was hoping.
