Well, I agree, except that I already spent the money on AskSam, so my question is why buy a desktop search program? Okay, the answer is that AskSam doesn’t quite work as advertised. But if it did, then I think it would a viable alternative. There is something comforting about having all ones information in one location. Theoretically, you can run reports from AskSam that you can’t when your information is spread around. And there is no denying that AskSam is blazingly fast on its searches. So, I guess what I’m saying is I’m not so sure the concept of AskSam is dated… it is merely the execution of the the concept that is lacking. Perhaps it is an impossible expectation that one program can effectively hold all sorts of different file types… still it is an expectation nurtured by the company.
