I have to say at the start that Idea Keeper 2.06 is so good that I no longer miss IC 4.03. IK’s developer has enhanced the outlining functions. IK has the same virtue of being extradordinarily customizable plus its own addicting qualities.
What made IC 4.03 great?
IC was a combination DATABASE, CALENDAR-TO DO APP, and outliner.plus you could program complicated selections & views. The combo was extraordinary. You could change and customize fields. You could apply separate formating rules to different columnns & levels of the outlining, in addition to manual formatting of selections. For example I maintained a master file & a separate file containing my calendar For projects I had 3 views:
1. Ordinary outlining view
2. Full view, with column of pull-down menu of standard project names, with autocomplete. Due date column. Type of item column (note, idea, meeting record, action). Status column (started, pending, completed, on hold) Priority ( ), Contact, Comments.
3.Action View, result of a macro I created: This searched all projects for items with type “action” & gathered them into a format suitable for export to my Calendar file, which I kept open simultaneously.
In my “Contact” file, I had standard columns for name, address, phone, type of contact, status. I then had a contact view with date & a full field to record details.
Plus (no small feat in these days of complicated apps and PIM’s): IC NEVER crashed and I don’t recall that any file ever became corrupted.
I have to say, though, that the column format of IC was limiting—there was no Form View-so to include many items in a view you had to use small text or scroll.
