Sorry for new topic, but what started out as a throw away comment on Rough Draft has sent me off to look at Word Processors in general.
I would like a fast, low on resources word processor that would also allow me to exhange every day files with Word. To that extent this test is too severe as I have been using a complex report to test the different capabilities.
So a first summary:
AbiWord opens in 6 seconds, uses 12695kb of memory, took for ever to import my Word document (I stopoed timing it because I assumed it had crashed) Import quality was poor, with few features other than the text imported correctly.
Text maker opens in 2 secs, uses 11308kb memory and imported my word document perfectly, more quickly than Word opened it in its native format.
Atlantis opens in 4 secs, uses 16572kb Memory, Tables imported badly (but the Atlantis doesn’t yet support tables)and grpahics imported as much lower resolution images than the originals.
Open Office 2.01 opens in 8 seconds uses 34520kb Memeory, strangely increasing to 54,000kb AFTER you shut it down. Opens Word document at about the same speed as Word. Tables imported badly but graphics were fine.
Word 2003 opens in 7 secs, uses 32,530kb memory.
Not really in the same league as neither work with Word documents, but interesting programs nnone the less.
Rough Draft opens in 2 secs and use 8776kb memory and Yeah write opens in 1 to 1.5 secs and uses 3964kb memory.
I haven’t looked at any of the other features yet.
