Graham, as you may know, Paul Chen is working on Biblioscape 7, which may deal with some of the issues of concern. I believe one of the aims is to make it more stable, as well as to tighten up the integration between the notes and references.
I like Biblioscape as far as I have worked with it. After trying out Nota Bene, and reading the list regularly, I am convinced that it will give me more grey hair than I already have (a tough act, believe me), and that there are just too many quirks.
Citation is not, I believe, any longer supported by the AskSam folks, and one has to go to the company that markets Citation and sometimes NB—The Write ______ or other; I don’t remember the name off-hand.
Paul Chen is generally good with answering questions and providing support.
In terms of biblio programs with a notes feature, there is also Scholar’s Aid—unfortunately, it is quirky, and the support is not consistent.
