<But then I wondered how this is effectively different than just keeping your outline open in one window and writing in Word or any other word processor. Is there an advantage to having the draft document an integral part of your outline? >
I haven’t tried it yet, but I wouldn’t expect a power outliner in so inexpensive a product. Sacrificing a lot of outlining power for the sake of the logistical convenience of three pre-set windows doesn’t sound like a good trade.
It seems to me the author has conceptualized how to exploit the power of a computer in basic writing tasks. He is selling the concept in the form of an inexpensive program that implements it. Almost like, you buy the program instead of a book describing the method.
It’s actually a fairly interesting concept, in that I don’t think it is quite the way most people write. I would not be apt to outline with so much detail, paragraph by paragraph, because I have the sense that ordinary paragraph composition creates a momentum that helps with small-idea generation. But I don’t think I’ve actually tested anything similar, and I’ll probably do so. Most likely not with this developer’s program, unless I’m extremely favorably surprised about what $15 can buy.
