The latest in the CRIMP stakes would appear to be Idea Cruncher (http://www.ideacruncher.com) which is being advertised above these pages.

It provides a variation on the Brainstorm model - with an outlining pane, a dynamic notes pane, and a “draft” pane with RTF - all on one screen. The online description envisages it being used progressively - idea generation, details in notes, then two or more draft stages.

Early days yet of course, but interesting all the same.
