The latest in the CRIMP stakes would appear to be Idea Cruncher (www.ideacruncher.com) which is being advertised above these pages.
It provides a variation on the Brainstorm model - with an outlining pane, a dynamic notes pane, and a "draft" pane with RTF - all on one screen. The online description envisages it being used progressively - idea generation, details in notes, then two or more draft stages.
Early days yet of course, but interesting all the same.

I will be interested in hearing your opinion of Idea Cruncher. I looked at it breifly a week or so ago. Here are my hastily gathered thoughts on it: Essentially, it is a very simplified tree-based notes organizer with the addition of an RTF document associated with each outline. Initially I was intrigued by this... create your outline, then refer to it as you are composing your text in the RTF document. But then I wondered how this is effectively different than just keeping your outline open in one window and writing in Word or any other word processor. Is there an advantage to having the draft document an integral part of your outline? I could see that there would be if the pieces were better integrated -- as in Liquid Story Binder. There is a certain attraction to Idea Cruncher's simplicity, however. It sort of strips the writing process down to its basics without a lot of bells and whistles.
If this approach appeals to you, you might want to also look at Text Tree (www.babykatiemedia.com/texttree/) which has the same simplicity, but seems to me to have better integration.

I have found another interesting product:

YourTree is a bit strange at the first sight but has some interesting features (metadata system, file attachments, hyperlinks and more).
And the best: It is available for free.
