I had rated ‘Internet Explorer 6 with MSN Search and Tabbed Browsing’ as in a tie for third position on why I consider the most important information management-related criteria for a browser, based on how they use tabs. I said that IE6 with the MSN toolbar features tabs of fixed length that can be made visible when they exceed the visible display. I was mistaken, in that I missed somehow the scrolling tabs that the MSN toolbar does provide. That brings it up to #2, in a tie with Netcaptor, the latter however doing a better job of miniaturizing its tabs. But I think the MSN toolbar, despite the absence of bells and whistles, is a more competent utility than reports generally have credited. It remains my first choice.
On the other hand, I think I over-rated Opera’s tabbing system, unless I missed something there. The way Opera handles tabs that exceed the boundaries of the screen seems to me now a very bad system. There’s an option to have them wrap, but either I don’t understand it, or it doesn’t work. So I would relegate Opera to a position tying with Maxthon and Avantbrowser.
Mostly, I wanted to correct the mistake about the MSN toolbar.
