Some time (years) ago, I bemoaned the fact that many of this forum’s participants would respond to a posting with a discussion of “It.” “It” must have been a fantastic software package as so many, many people referred to “It.” Yet, despite my repeated requests, NO ONE would tell me what the vendor’s name for “It” was.
Many/most of the active participants in this forum treat it (the forum) very informally—exactly the opposite from what they want their software to do. For example:
Responding to a posting about a specific product without ever mentioning what that product is.
Responding to a posting with a discussion of an entirely different topic. ... So much for “threads.”
Thus, I see little point in having a forum with more sophisticated tools and capabilities. People just won’t take the time to keep their postings nice and tidy, making the added tools/capabilities mostly useless.
[P.S. If you are following the current Bush “I don’t need no court warrants” controversy, you might wish to read the fourth Amendment to the Constitution. It’s quite short, but very specific.]
