I see the need neither for a vote nor for a lot of off-topic meta-discussion. If some participants want to take Neville up on his offer, this site doesn’t have to be closed down or abandoned for them to do that. Participants can be involved in both forums or choose one. It’s up to them and the owner of the alternative venue.
What if a majority wants to leave? How does that stop the minority from continuing here? Those who want a Yahoo group can use Steve’s now with his permission or start another one.
I for one have no ambitions to influence people. I just try to clairify my thinking about software and methods of work. I’m glad if it happens to help somebody else, but that’s frankly not my main motivation. I don’t like Yahoo groups because the structure puts too much power in the list owner. This isn’t good when discussion becomes controversial. I don’t like depending on a software developer like Neville either. It’s hard to criticize his software when he owns the forum, if for no reason besides etiquette.
But that’s all I really intend to say about this dreary subject.
