I don’t pick a program based on whether the developer is willing to implement features I want. Not as the main criterion, anyway. Instead, I mainly look at what the developer sees fit to include on his own and what areas of non-programming expertise he has seen fit to master, to determine whether the developer’s vision substantially overlaps mine. Secondarily, I look at what kind of users the program seems to attract, because their needs will ultimately determine the product’s direction if the product is to succeed.
