Does anyone know what happened to this software and its developer (Academix).
Their website is down, and the webshop at http://store.yahoo.net/takenote/completedemo.html will not allow you to download the software, saying, it is not available right now.
I have managed to download it from another source anyway, but running the trial it says I have exceeded my time limit, which is, I think, due to the fact that the last update of Takenote was around 2003.
But this software seems very promising: using the index card methodology it allows you to fit these card into an outline (not all, just what you want) and then export it to word proccessors. So, I would really like to have a look at it, but cannot.
(Another example for it is knowbase, but it lacks outlining capabilities, thoug Personal Knobase is still a live project).
Since the product is apparently discontinued and the company is down, I would not order a license key, as I really do not know where my mone will land and if I will ever get something in exchange of it.
But without one, I wont be able to trial this software.
Anyone any idea what to do?

I at one time used TakeNote!, and provided a testimonial for its web site.
About two years ago I sent the first in a series of emails to the company asking when it might update TakeNote! Not a single email was ever replied to.
I think there was a business arrangement between Academix and textbook publishing giant The Thomson Corporation (more than $8 billion in revenues in 2004) that allowed for TakeNote! to be bundled with software that accompanied some of Thomson's text books.
One could perhaps query Thomson re TakeNote!

You might try ndxCards, which also uses virtual cards that can be selected for inclusion in an outline. I have never used TakeNate!, so I can't offer a further comparison.

If you like this approach, you might as well try two similar products that have been repeatedly discussed at this forum and that are still being regularly updated. They are Writer's Blocks ( http://www.writersblocks.com/ ) and the much cheaper SuperNotecard ( http://www.mindola.com/ ).
A third, somewhat different alternative is ndxCards ( http://www.ndxcards.com/ )

Thank you, Alex! That is a good approach.
Maybe it is Personal Knowbase that goes between, I do not know.
Anyway, I am collecting web pages with Net Snippets. The basic version is free, and has the advantage of building up a web page database that can be freely integrated with any kind of other software, since it stores saved pages in simple, separate html files. Copernic Desktop Search (also a free tool) provides me with a superb pre-indexed search of this database. Now, Evernote stores my thoughts on the fly, and also copy-pasted quotes, passages, etc., with a semi-automated keyword system.
Personal Knowbase could be the one that might be used for projects, that is to say, to build up a data base on a project by project basis (both Evernote and Net Snippets folders store everything en mass).
And finally, no need for Supernotecard. As I am more and more familiar with Word's outlining capabilities, it might turn out to be a better tool anyway...
But still, Tinderbox is on my mind, it is getting really good reviews in the Mac community...
