I comprehend and agree with your line of argument, however: my own profession and overall interests and occupations have to do with finding patterns, similarities and relationships between quite diverse issues and areas, i.e. business, environment, social interactions, psychology, spirituality etc.
In short, I work in a highly “non-linear” domain where I rely on synergies to produce any kind of useful output. For those synergies to take form, I require a bird’s eye view of things much more than accurate details; those can be filled in later.
In that sense, I’d say that I start the other way around from a classic researcher; I start with a concept, describe it and then reform it so that it fits in with reality; the creation of the concept itself though is triggered by “seeing something” within a multitude of sources.

I agree; however, I do not think that “personal information stores will become obsolete” because subjectivity is the basis of our individual sense of reality—and worth.
