Steve Z questioned the difficulty of creating a Windows version of GV and Derek answered him. Most developers now use Windows “tools” to create their products. I doubt any affordable tools exist for creating a program that does all the things GV did and still have the program affordable.. Also, the developers of InfoRecall say the program is written in C (or C++ ?), and it is buggy.
The fellow who tried to write a Windows version of PC Outline (precursor of GV) gave up. Apparently the file format of GV is copyrighted.
As I recall the cost of GV 15+ years ago was $295. In today’s worth…less $... ???
Speaking of copyright, I haven’t given up. The on-line access to copyrights did not list GV at all. However the US Copyright Office claims a better search engine should come on-line in December. I never could reach and never received a call back from a contact for copyrights that a Library of Congress employee/friend gave me.
