Peter, your idea sounds good on the surface, but I am reminded of the old saying that a camel is a horse designed by a committee.

More seriously, I think there is such a difference among individual preferences regarding work style, aesthetics, needs, etc. that it might be impractical to try to create the ultimate writing tool.
