The Ultimate Writing Tool: an open source project?

So many great ideas come up in here and in related fora. I'm often dreaming about if all these efforts were put together and we made a requirement specification, which could form the basis for an open source project, to develop the Ultimate Writing Tool. There seems to be a general agreement on what is good and what is bad in the types of programs that we discuss here.

Would a thing like this be feasible? What do you think?

Great idea! I am very much for, and will write more about it later this week.

Peter, your idea sounds good on the surface, but I am reminded of the old saying that a camel is a horse designed by a committee.

More seriously, I think there is such a difference among individual preferences regarding work style, aesthetics, needs, etc. that it might be impractical to try to create the ultimate writing tool.

I have the impression that most software we've been discussing here has been conceived as the Ultimate Writing or Information Management Tool by their developers. But diversity rules (thankfully) and our needs are very different.

For example, Daly (I think) has posted that he likes InfoHandler's categorising information items when initially collected, while others prefer Zoot's fluid Collect Now - Classify Later approach.

Having a limited programming background myself, I tend to prefer supporting the development of my favourite tools (Brainstorm, FreeMind) as well as this here discussion which has greatly expanded my concepts of how one can actually go about writing.

A very good idea! And even it seems to be a very difficult job to develop the UWT I am sure it is possible.

If you need my assistance I am very happy to help.
