Peter, thank you very very much.
>Again sorry for the long post.
Well, I think this is what I should say: sorry for making such a question…
>I’m simply trying to find my way through the jungle, and find the very helpful people and friendly atmosphere much stimulating for getting an overview of a very interesting field, as well as discussing broader aspects of the writing process.
Yes, exactly, this also why I subscribed to this list and am very grateful for.

Another useful tool in this respect is netXtract (although it works only with IE):
In fact, it consists of two modules. One of them instantly indexes web pages you visit, then you can filter the results according to custom ‘dictionaries’ - meaning that in a second you see your predefined keywords highlighted in the text, and then you are able to send the fragments of text you need to the KBase Manager, which is the second module that looks like a two pane outliner. It has a possibility to view the items (the snippets you saved) by category (folders), date, URL or keywords. You can also enter desired text manually or copy it from other applications, like text editors. However, the main weaknesses (at least for me) are that you can have only one ‘Knowledge Base’ and that the development is slow again - the most recent version 2.1b was released about two years ago.

PS. Below I quote from the netXtract homepage:
Automatically indexes each displayed web-page.
Immediately extracts all contexts for any key word or phrase you choose.
“Jumps” directly to the context you find most interesting.
Allows you to define custom filters by area of study, interest or business focus to further refine relevancy testing.
Enables you to save any selected text directly into the netXtract Knowledge Base. You can also save text from any other application (MS Word, E-mail, etc.).
Provides you with the ability to quickly classify, categorize, maintain and share (Team Edition) your Knowledge Base.
Easily import your existing bookmarks and add context for each entry
Export categories, or specific entries in HTML, XML or MS Access Database (mdb) formats.
