In addition to reasons of heritage and respect, the one practical reason for trying to keep outliners.com in its present state is the amazing quantity of information residing in the 4000+ messages posted till today.
I have even found myself googling through the discussion list to look for my own ideas, developed and expressed verbally in the course of certain discussions much better than in any of my personal notes.
I believe that any potential move should aim to preserve this knowledge base in its present form, i.e. searchable forum. Being in plain text form, I believe that the disk space required is not that much; with hosting companies offering 500 Mb for $4-5 a month I’d be more than willing to contribute for the benefit of permanent access. However, I have little knowledge of the software requirements, i.e. Manila / Userland or whatever platform is used, and the potential licensing fees.
