Interestingly, some time ago I had posted a message to the Brainstorm Beta list suggesting that Brainstorm could fare well with academics who use TeX because they don’t require RTF but can represent virtually anything.
So, for example, Brainstorm could automatically recognise identical formulas as Namesakes (clones) so, in theory, even mathematicians could employ it it.
Your remark above adds an interesting variation, i.e. using TeX within plain text tools to represent non-latin languages.
I think that you actually have a significant choice of tools, as well as potential combinations, if you stick to TeX.
( For anyone who doesn’t know what we are talking about, here’s a few leads: http://www.math.vanderbilt.edu/~schectex/wincd/intro_to_tex.htm
and http://www.tex.ac.uk/cgi-bin/texfaq2html )

[By the way, after my third failed attempt to post my previous answer and make it last, I am wondering whether there’s something within that message that causes it to self-destruct; ah well, we’ll see how this one works out]
