CRIMP Colleagues,
I am unsure if any of you have ever seriously considered Personal Knowbase (http://www.bitsmithsoft.com). It is a fairly simple free form database that forgoes hierarchical categorizing (i.e. it is not an outliner). Instead, articles are cataloged by keywords. You can assign as many keywords to an article as you desire. This makes it a sort of lite version of MDE InfoHandler.
I have begun using Personal Knowbase as a complement to Zoot. While Zoot handles the bulk of my information management, PK is a handy place to store that information that can benefit from text formatting. I had tried using UltraRecall for this function, but I think having two complex programs just didn’t work for me, and I wasn’t about to give up Zoot for UR, not just yet anyway.
The purpose of this message is to let you know that the developers of PK have come out with version 3. It isn’t an Earth-shaking upgrade, but there are a few significant improvements:
- hyperlinks within articles is now supported
- password protection down to the article level
- enhanced text formatting options
- drag and drop text into the index window to create a new article
I’m sure this meager list isn’t going to convert any of you to PK, but if you’re looking for a simple freeform database that is easy on the cerebellum to use, you might want to check it out.
