I too paid for Literary machine, but found it a bit too much to cope with. Its a very clever concept but a bit too complicated.

I think that Brainstorm http://www.brainstormsw.com is a much better program for pulling together information focussed on a specific article or project.

Unlike LM, with BS you cannot embed graphics: you can only link them, but overall, it is amazingly powerful and simple.
