Franz,
I’m not sure if you compare NoteMap to Brainstorm as it isn’t really an Outliner in the sense that Notemap is. You could possibly use Brainstorm instead of NoteMap, but you couldn’t use Notemap instead of Brainstorm.
It is more a tool for bringing together random thoughts and information into one place where it can be easily re-organised and structured. It has good file linking tools and sophisticated tools for clipping info from other programs. The multiple views of the same model also make it easy to move info around, and see several levels of your model at the same time.
You really need to try it to grasp what it does. My favourite use for it is importing old PowerPoint presentations and rebuilding them in Brainstorm before exporting back as PowerPoint, or turning into leture notes. I haven’t come across anything that does this as well as Brainstorm.
