sorting in More 3.1

I am trying to use the sort function in More 3.1 using a powerbook G3 400 with 60000 Kb of real ram assigned to More within big documents (up to about 1.3 Mb), using Macos 8.6
The sort function, plain alphabetic, does not work anymore.
I tried to make it work switching off extensions, virtual memory. No go.
I used it in the past on equivalent document on a powerbook G3 250 under the same conditions.
any suggestions, or any suggestions trying another program?
