A few weeks (maybe longer) ago, someone asked if there was any tree-based outliner that allowed outline numbering in the tree, and export of the outline. I just noticed that KeyNote does this in a somewhat rudimentary way. The results look something like this (without the extra line space between lines, but I need to put them in here or they will run together into one paragraph. Also, pretend the leading periods are just indents—I found that when I used spaces to indent, the display took them away and showed each item at the same level):
1 Top most item
.....1.1 2nd-level item
.....1.2 2nd-level item
..........1.2.1 3rd-level item
.....1.3 2nd-level item
etc…
You only get one choice of number formats, and you can only export the tree to text, but that’s better than most tree-based outliners, and, of course, KeyNote is free. Supposedly, a new version is in the works, but it has been for two years.
