I have; in fact, it is to support my weekly planning that I am testing task management software for.
Of the three I’m looking at, Achieve Planner has the richest feature set; it covers planning, scheduling and tracking/reporting. By planning, I mean project breakdown into tasks that can then be scheduled; AP synchronises with Outlook though it has its own capable calendar. Tracking/reporting can then be used for time billing etc. Unfortunately, its heavy use of resources makes it impractically slow on two of my humble PCs.
My Life Organised covers mainly planning and relies on Outlook for scheduling, which is good enough for most purposes. That’s about it. At this point it would be nice if Outlook could do the Agenda At Once (and ultimately common sense) trick of dragging and dropping tasks into the calendar to create “appointments”.
TimeTo does not support task breakdown (yet) though this is planned. Rather TT has focused its feature set around (dynamic) scheduling, i.e. the “intermediate” process; it’s a unique tool as it can support a personal time management strategy. Its reporting tools are adequate too. But for me, it is currently let down by its lack of integration; one has to do the task breakdown elsewhere, export or re-type the task list to TT and rely on it as their main calendar as it can’t sync with Outlook yet.
Decisions pending…
