I agree. I think this is the biggest weakness in the current version. I have posted a few messages on their forum with this concern as well….Maybe if more of us voiced this concern with the developers, we would get this functionality added sooner rather than later.
But, I believe there is a bright future for the product for the following reasons:
#1. I believe there is a good amount of development momentum behind the product. If you go to their newsgroup, you can read very encouraging comments from the developers on what is planned for the next release. (InfoSelect is a good example of no momentum)
#2. They are not a “1 trick pony”.... They have developed several award winning products. So OmeaPro should stick around for a long time. (UltraRecall is in similar situation)
#3. The developers were smart and created OP with an open API. This means users & 3rd parties can add more functionality with plugins. The key here is the installed base has to grow so 3rd party developers will have a reason to create add-ins.
#4. I believe that the current version has done alot of the “heavy lifting” (an open API, created the framework for “all information under 1 roof”...) Plus, the dbase functionality is already there (i.e. annotations to web pages…. Adding additional dbase functions (like outlining rtf notes…) is relatively easy compared to what they already done.
