I have been a constant user--every day--of In Control, which combines the power of an outliner with flat-file database features. With its customizable macro features, it's an incredibly powerful project manager. And it's been orphaned for a few years now.
Is anyone aware of comparable new products? I've been testing BrainForest for the Pilot, which has desktop modules that link to the pilot. But, for instance, if you flag items throughout a large outline that you want to do today, or discuss with someone, there's no simple way to view only those selected items. That was the power of In Control.
We're presently on Macs at my work, but soon the Windows tide will sweep over us, so I'm really hunting for a powerful outline-based option to take over when I finally have to give up In Control!
