I’ve started to use Zoot fragmentally for clipping things into. Had zooted something which got the wrong heading, so I marked something more appropriate for a heading in the body text, and wanted to copy it to the header field. Right-clicked on the marked text and: “Rename”, what is this? Let’s try it - and there you are, the item is renamed to the marked text just like that.
I anticipate many of these fantastic moments with Zoot… It is not only the overall concept of Zoot that is great, but it seems to have so many nice details in terms of the user interface, instead of just doing things in the old way. Also just a thing like that the default is that items are saved, and that you don’t have to save them manually. Yes, indeed, the “user interface language” in most programs is, that you have to save it manually, being a stupid computer metaphor, and not reflecting the way that people work and think. I find it annoying getting these “Do you want to save…” - yes, *of course* I want to save, else I hadn’t written it!
BTW, in a recent correspondence with Tom, he informed me that:
“Students and faculty are eligible for an educational discount and can order Zoot 4.0 for $69. For complete order information, head to the following web page:
http://www.zootsoftware.com/Orders/Order/Order%20EDU.htm “
and:
“I’m working on the 16 to 32-bit conversion presently and have made much progress. There’s no way to anticipate what snags I may yet encounter, so I can’t predict a finish date. In any case, upgrades are free for a year from purchase, so you’ll be covered. “
...which I read as a sign that the new version will be ready within a year.
Best regards,
Peter.
