Daly,
You are most welcome; I have been equally “crimped”, mainly because I bought the software (MindManager, Notemap, Alpha 5 and currently contemplating JCVGantt Pro) with my credit card in anticipation of payments due in September, i.e. I went off my budget. (I normally buy everything by debit card).
As Stephen D. has written in the past, any price is too high for products you never use. I think the main issue here is the usability of these tools and their integration in our worklow. The former is uncontested, as most of these tools have an avid following, even among this discussion group.
As for the latter, I personally think I’ve made the right choice, though I’ll humbly admit I’ve thought so in the past and been proved wrong; the software I bought has been in my WIBUTH (Wouldn’t It Be Useful To Have) list for sometime. In fact, I was so happy with Notemap that I bought two additional licenses as gifts for my main partners (Jack, again, I received the licenses within 24 hours).
I had been looking for an introduction to “mind tools” for them for sometime and I found Notemap is excellent for this. It has an intuitive GUI, it integrates perfectly with MS Office and it even has Office’s look and feel. It presents new possibilities without being too exotic. At the same time it’s the perfect partner for Brainstorm. It means I can keep working in Brainstorm, copy/paste my models to Notemap and mail them the files without worrying about format.
If they get hooked to it, which I think they will, I would gladly get them Brainstorm licenses next (if the Brainstorm team eventually does a similar promotion).
The other issue (for me) is the timing; I spent in August money that I will earn in September. But this is how it goes in sales season; I also bought clothes in August and I feel OK about that—I’m certainly going to wear them!
;-)
