Ameol started off life as a dedicated offline reader for the CIX conferencing service, a sort of British Compuserve, set up after the founder was told by Compuserve they had no intention of offering compuserve to the UK. Still largely populated by IT people. It now works as a full POP3 mail client and has the best threading around
Virtual Access was called various things Wigwam, Teepee and others. It was an offline reader for Cix and Compuserve and several other services of this type. If you were member of Cix and Compuserve, as I was, you could manage, your POP3 email, you cix conferences and your compuserve forums all from one program. It was fairly pricey, but a very good bit of software. Which as I say is now open source.
