Alx,
StoryView is a bit over the top for what I need. I did find another program called TimelineXpress
http://www.indatacorp.com/software/timelinexpress/timelineXpress.asp
but at $129, and it seems to have limited range of styles. Aimed at the legal market, and of course Casesoft do Timeline software, but at $199
TimeLineMaker seems to give the power to quickly produce TimelInes in a range of styles (albeit a bit limited).
The problem I have with both SmartDraw and ConceptDraw is that they give you no help with managing the date line. You need to manually type in all the dates and manually scale the drawing. They do however, offer much greater scope for producing the “exact” style of timline you want. Again, the Concept Draw options seem a bit more polished than Smart Draw.
What I think I will do is buy TimeLineMaker ($30)use it for quick Timelines, but then, if I need to, use it as a guides for scaling etc to produce a fancy TimeLine in SmartDraw/ConceptDraw.
