If you don’t need the presentation features, Inspiration is a good approximation, with far superior tree chart/diagramming module. Version 6.0 is due in January, but don’t let that deter you from downloading a v5 demo (from http://www.inspiration.com) now. Actually, when 5.0 came out you could get a free upgrade if you’d just purchased 4.x (a good thing, as 5.0 got rid of a couple of really nice features like the custom colour palette, so I still keep both versions around…)
There’s a nice article on Inspiration and other outliners, including Acta and MORE, in the December issue of SemperMac magazine (http://www.sempermac.com/mag/dec99/thefurnace/productivity/thefurnaceinspir.html). It’s particularly interesting on how Douglas Adams used it to outline Starship Titanic. Dave Winer is also quoted. Note that the final page of the article suffers from a broken link and needs to be URL-edited by hand (change “inspib” to “inspic” in the address)!
