I’m not real well versed in Evernote, though I’ve been intrigued by it for some time. EN seems on first glance to be the more sophisticated program. Evernote allows you to create virtual folders that act as filters on your data… however, you can achieve this same functionality with the keyword indexing of PKB. The difference is that EN’s virtual folders can act automatically based upon rules you set up (similar to Zoot, actually), while with PKB, you need to select your keywords as you create your notes. As discussed previously, this can be problematical, as you must anticipate your future needs for this information and that’s not always practical. That’s why I use PKB mostly for more structured data. For instance, I keep my agency’s catalog of books (we’re a nonprofit publiser) in PKB, because I know exactly which categories I want to use. That’s another difference between PKB and EN: EN is most effective if you maintain just one single data repository. With PKB, you will probably want to parse your data into discrete databases (I recently asked the PK forum for input on this strategy, and the response from the developer offers that advice as a general rule).
