I wrote to CaseSoft requesting clarification of their upgrade policy for existing users in light of the special offer. Here is the very polite response I received (including the sad news that there is no version 3 in the works).

Thank you for being a loyal NoteMap user! We have no current plans for NoteMap 3, in fact our developers are currently working on CaseMap 6 the update to CaseMap 5 which is our award winning Case Analysis Tool.

The email for the special NoteMap offer is offered periodically to allow prospective clients a great deal for a great outliner. We do ALWAYS offer our clients pre-release special pricing for all of our product upgrades before they are released, so please make sure we have your updated information and I can guarantee that when NoteMap 3 is in the works you will receive that special offer (NoteMap 2 pre-release pricing was $49 to upgrade). The price does go back up shortly after the upgrade is released.

As always, we thank you much for being a CaseSoft user and a special thank you for spreading the word about NoteMap!

I don’t recall the $49 special upgrade offer, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen or that I didn’t take advantage of it. Hope I did, because that would have been smart, huh?
