Inspired by some of the discussions which have taken place in this forum during the last month or so, I really think it would be a help to have a sort of aggregated comparison chart for the applications we talk about in here.
It could be a comparable list of features, and each application could also be placed in the three-layer model for writing, which has been proposed here recently.
It is a jungle out there, when you start digging into the numerous applications that exist, and I think that it would be a great help for new-comers to the outline-world, if such a tool existed that could guide them on the way to the right tools for them. This would also increase the general knowledge and use of outliners.
You would indeed expect such a thing to exist on a page like outliners.com, aside actual reviews of outliners, just like you find reviews and comparisons of other applications on c-net, ZD-net etc.
The right person should also write a book on this approach to writing, incl. descriptions of the most commonly used applications.
Just a suggestion.
Peter.

I've got a Brainstorm model with 40 or so tree-based free-form databases, applications such as Treepad, Black Hole, Jot+, etc... I started this because I have been amused at how many of them there are out there, all claiming to be unique (and some do have unique features). This listing doesn't include more advanced applications, such as InfoHandler and Zoot, just those applications that build their organization of your information around a hierarchical tree. I'd be happy to supply this information for this effort.
