>I am risking my life now but I think that MindMapping tools are nearly the same like textbase outliners (ADM, TreePad, InfoSelect etc.). I admit that MindMapping tools allow to add more colors and graphics but in the end the content counts.
I have tried to use MindManager X5 to use it for my project work but I am still using ADM for this. The outliner paradigm is still the best representation paradigm of information and knowledge for me even it is not perfect.< Dominik
I don’t think we have any mind mapping fanatics here. But your point about the equivalence of outlining and mind mapping cuts both ways, not necessarily for text-based outlining. It means the user might ignore the distinction and make his choice based on other features.
Of the two-pane text-based outliners, only ADM can match the outlining power the leading mind mapping programs. If someone wants to combine a powerful quasi-outlining program with database capabilities in a two-pane format, the choices are ADM or one of various mind mapping programs, including a free one.
Ignoring the mind mapping vs outlining distinction, the main thing ADM has that most mind mapping programs lack is metadata manipulation. Mind mapping programs, at least what I’ve looked at, don’t have columns, and my limited imagination cannot picture what columns would look like in a mind mapper. The main thing the mind mapping programs provide that ADM lacks, at least since I last checked, is greater stability and fewer bugs.
