I think this is just further evidence that the developers do not consider these applications outliners, but instead see them as free-form databases with hierarchical categorization. That’s also indicated by the fact that they don’t provide for outline alpha-numeric labeling of the tree items.
Genuine outliners are rare, and have been mentioned in this thread: Inspiration and Notemap, with applications like Brainstorm and ADM providing quasi-outlining capability. This is why those of us who know the good-old days of GrandView, lament the current state of affairs. But I won’t go there…
