Hi Sebastien
I didn’t mean to infer that Treepad isn’t a quality product. Of course it is, and it set the standard for many years. A couple of years ago it was close to the best product of its type on the market and I happily upgraded to TP Plus and then to Business.
However, its development took a strange (for me) turn and the tree-PIM type functionality hasn’t really advanced much in the last two years. Apart from the lack of email integration (obviously not a major issue for many people), the other important consideration for me is the search engine.
Treepad is great in being able to link external files to the database, but you can’t search inside them. I don’t see the point in setting up a dashboard type function if you can’t find anything from within the host app. You have to use an external search engine, indexer or whatever. I had some correspondence with Henk about this, but it wasn’t a priority at the time. To be fair, he was redesigning the file format, a not inconsiderable task.
I think Treepad has missed an opportunity as evidenced by some of the newer players in the market who have immediately offered the very functions that I was chasing.
It will be interesting to see where Treepad is headed. At the moment I think it is becalmed.
Jack
