I’ve been trying the beta version of EverNote. It is fairly unique. You store all your notes in one place, and they are tag and ordered by date… the metaphore is a long, scrolling tape. But it also has some sophisticated categorization functions, which allow you to set up folder-filters that can automatically filter notes based on certain keywords. Notes can be classified as a single to do, a to do list, and others, which I don’t recall. I believe there are other ways to parse notes. To me the program EN most emulates is Zoot, though the two programs don’t resemble one another at all. EN has the advantage of storing formatted text. I think Zoot’s categorization and organizing capabilities are superior, as is its data capturing ability. EN does have a strong appeal, however. I don’t know what additional features may be in the public release version… I guess there is still a free version and a pro version.
I would look seriously at EN if I weren’t happy with Zoot.
