GemX's DoOrganizer version 2 is released. I haven't tried it to see whether there are significant improvements or additions.

Daly,
as an Info Select user, I'm interested to hear what your experience has been with version DoOrganizer 2. I love Info Select, but its linking capabilities are limited. I've been using DoOrganizer since it came out, but have kept my most important information in Info Select while GemX works out the bugs.

DoOrganizer has Version 2 uses a much faster & more reliable database than version 1. I've had no significant problems-it just takes a little longer to enter your data because DoOrganizer's features are so comprehensive.

It has outlining capabilities, but not like your old-school (flat file) outliners. However, I've found that with it's other features, the need to outline my information has dropped.

Yes, you're right about the elegance of DO. InfoSelect's speed is the best, but mixed with its GUI, it's visually jarring. I guess to be able to have the same abount of info layed out so smoothly is what really sold me. Plus, I'm excited because I've been looking to "whittle down" the number of apps I have to use just to get something done...and still be able to create what one *might* call an outline. So far I've knocked off a sticky notes program, a password protecion program, a paper yearly planner, and a tree-style RTF/HTML diary program. Not to mention the desire for a mind mapping program & bookmarking program. I haven't used IS in a while, but I love the mail, too. I've also tried MDE InfoHandler, so I see where our info mgmt. needs differ. Sorry ;) Not much to bring to the 'Outliners' table today but I am happy happy happy over here in the slow lane...

Stephen,

To add/save an entry, my estimation is

1/4 sec. for IS,
1/2 to 3/4 sec. max for DO. Or,
IS: DO as
Excel: Access.

Improperly expressed, I'm sure, but you know what I mean...
It's not like sitting there waiting for anything, like when IS loads...this brings IS's score down, considerably.

Since I'm not in a position where '1/2 second less/more per entry' means anything, I consider all of the time-related factors that I can come up with. IS may be a little faster to use second to second, but as long as I'm not waiting for an app to do its thing, I wouldn't consider it 'slow'.

I'm just in the slow lane because:
I've chosen to utilize most of DO's categorizing features, which takes a little longer per entry,
I'm approaching info mgmnt. from a more deliberate standpoint than I did with IS (thinking, deciding per entry vs. automatic entries), and since I don't get burnt/mentally fatigued w/ DO, I'm spending more time utilizing my information than I can with IS.

I hope this answers your question :)
