I think there is an old saying about how there are two things you don’t want to see being made: hotdogs and legislation. Maybe the third thing to add to that list is software. I suspect that if we really knew what was going on with the design and programming of any software, we’d be shocked and not very confident about using it.
I am not defending the folks at ADM, because I have no idea what their integrity level is, but I can imagine that any time you can get close to the process… that is, when the developer provides and contribute to a forum of users… that there is going to be some (maybe a lot of) cracks and fisures that appear.
If there is no other lesson from this, one that is crucial is don’t trust your data to a new or even evolving application until you know that it is rock-solid reliable. This is just one more of the devastating impacts of suffering from CRIMP.
