Alexander,
Do you use one data file for Hyperclip or several? To me this is often THE essential question and provides a glimpse of how well a PIM is designed. When I began using UltraRecall, I built different files for different topics, but soon found that UR is really not good at working with multiple files, so I’ve brought everything into one file (and eagerly awaiting the promised Hoist function in a future version). MyInfo 3.0 makes working with multiple files a little easier, as it provides a tabbed interface for accessing all open files (or topics as they now call them). This seemed like a good approach, but I’ve found it a little slow and the inability to search or clone across topics is a drawback. InfoSelect basically forces you to have one big database (which can be broken down into individual files… a nice feature… but you are forced to view them all within the same tree structure).
Basically, the challenge is this: how to provide instant access to ALL your data, however it may be stored, while keeping your database manageable to browse. I still haven’t found anything better at this than Zoot, though one must surely get used to the busy-looking user interface. I think EverNote may also be an up and coming choice.
