Daly,
Thanks for the offer to exapnd on my conceptual crisis, I am sure there would be a lot of helpful advice available here.
However, I also feel this is a very personal issue that relates to my fairly complex working patterns, my personal likes and dislikes, and the need to co-author reports and collaborate on projects, which means I am forced to also consider software compatability issues.
I seem to trundle along for a while accepting a compromise situation and then have a crisis of being fed up with the compromise. I then trial lots of programs, get seduced by some that seem to solve some of my major frustrations and then realise that I have replaced the old frustrations with new ones.
Then I go into the phase that I am in now, where I wonder whether I go back to my old programs, work out how the new and old might integrate or persevere with the new ones, and ditch the old ones.
Currently I am running 4 word processors, 3 PIMs, 4 mind mapping programs, 3 bibliographic programs, and whole bundle of Outliner/data management type programs. And that is without starting to list the Statistics, GIS and graphics programs.
Well actually, as of this weekend past, some of these programs have had data transferred and have been uninstalled. But this has meant me losing some of my favourite programs, and focussing on programs that I don’t like, but have to use because everyone else does, and I have to be able to share data.
Any way, thanks again for the offer, but I think I am the only one who stands any chance of sorting this out.
Graham
