You are about to discover that Windows XP no more has the equivalent of More 3.1 than does Mac OS X. Just as the Mac’s most powerful outliner, More, was stranded with the new operating system, so “IBM compatibles,” as they used to be called, was left with no counterpart to GrandView with demise of DOS.
The gap in functionality between More and anything currently on Windows is so great that it simply doesn’t make sense to do what you want—to find another program that mimics certain More features. First of all, there simply isn’t a program with both of the features you want. Secondly, when you see the offerings, I doubt you will be that concerned about these two features, given what else is lacking. Put simply, there just aren’t nearly as many choices as I think you assume.
Your choices, besides Word’s outliner, boil down to Inspiration (which is a cross-platform program) and NoteMap (http://www.casesoft.com). Sorry to be the bearer of he bad news.
